Katayoon Hakim, L.Ac.
Third
generation in healing profession, Katayoon is a licensed Acupuncturist
and certified Herbalist and Massage Therapist, with Master's degree in
Chinese Medicine from Five Branches Institute in Santa Cruz, California
with postgraduate advanced training in China.
Graduated with a bachelor degree in chemistry and worked as a chemist
in Silicon Valley. As a child she grew up with medicinal and culinary
herbs, "when my sister and I had cramps, my mom would brew a tea
made from borage and valerian with dry lemon".
Her uncle had his own medicinal herb garden and was known as a medicine
man in his town. He had expertise in pulse taking. Both her father and
grandfather were doctors and prescribed herbal medicine for their patients.
This is how she inherited last name, HAKIM, which means healer.
She has extensive training in western and Chinese herbal medicine prior
to going to Acupuncture school.
She has had extensive training in Orthopedic Acupuncture and women's health
and holds a certification from Acupuncture Orthopedic Board. She is also
a participated practitioner for a research study on "Acupuncture
and Pregnancy" which conducted in Stanford University and worked
with pregnant women.
In her practice, she uses a holistic approach that includes diet, nutritional
counseling and acupressure to enhance the effectiveness of treatments.
She also combines both western and eastern medicine tools for more appropriate
diagnosis, such as blood test, saliva test for hormone level, and urine
and stool analysis for any digestive disorder.
She specializes in treating musculoskeletal, gynecological and gastrointestinal
disorders.
She believes through
the use of Acupuncture, patients can regain the healing power of their
body. She uses balancing techniques in order to help patients to gain
strength and deal with root problem of the disorder.
